Protecting the most vulnerable
The average cost of a data breach now stands at an unprecedented $4.45 million, with nearly half of these cyberattacks targeting small businesses. Recognizing this critical threat, the City of Carlsbad is taking proactive measures to ensure business resiliency and cybersecurity awareness within the community.
In partnership with the San Diego Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the city introduced a comprehensive Cyber-Awareness Program. Designed to empower 250 local small businesses, the program encompassed three key elements:
- FBI Cyber Task Force Executive Briefing: A deep dive into the current cyber threat landscape.
- Cyber Risk Snapshot by RiskRecon, a Mastercard Company: A personalized assessment of each participating company’s online presence, identifying potential vulnerabilities.
- ESET’s Premium Cybersecurity-Awareness Training: An invaluable resource for up to 100 employees to enhance safe online business operations.
The program, launched on October 18, 2023, provided these services at no cost to participating Carlsbad small businesses. By becoming more cyber-aware, businesses contribute to a more resilient community and a thriving Carlsbad economy, benefiting us all.
