Building What’s Next: Carlsbad’s Startups

October 5, 2026

From life sciences and clean technology to software, communications and advanced manufacturing, Carlsbad’s entrepreneurs and growing companies are turning big ideas into what’s next.

When San Diego Startup Week arrives November 2 to 6, some of the region’s biggest conversations around entrepreneurship, innovation and the future of business will begin right here in Carlsbad.

Day 1 of San Diego Startup Week will take place in Carlsbad Village, bringing founders, entrepreneurs, investors, mentors and startup leaders together at venues including the Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center. The week-long event is designed to connect thousands of people across the San Diego startup community through networking, mentorship, pitch competitions, workshops and more.

But for Carlsbad, the entrepreneurial energy doesn’t start or end with Startup Week. It’s already happening every day.

Startups in Carlsbad and established companies alike are building products, developing new technologies and creating opportunities that extend well beyond the City.

A Place Where Ideas Can Take Root

What makes Carlsbad an appealing place for entrepreneurs is more than its proximity to San Diego. The City offers access to a highly skilled talent pool, established industry clusters, business resources and connections to the broader San Diego innovation ecosystem.

That combination helps explain why companies in Carlsbad span such a diverse range of industries. Carlsbad is home to a growing life sciences community, technology and communications companies, software businesses, manufacturers and entrepreneurs building the next generation of products and services.

For founders, that means an idea can move from concept to company while remaining connected to a broader network of talent, investors, industry partners and customers.

And for professionals, it means more ways to find meaningful work without sacrificing the lifestyle that makes Carlsbad unique.
